Children Reading for Life runs sessions aimed at parents, carers and grandparents explaining why it is so important to read to children, the positive effects of reading together, how to encourage a ‘reading culture’ at home and how to help if their child goes off reading.
These inspiring sessions are held in schools for parents, carers and grandparents (daytime, after-school or evening). Sessions further develop and complement your school’s parental engagement commitments and can be run in conjunction with World Book Day week, parents’ evenings etc.
All sessions focus on developing reading for pleasure at home and are designed to complement your school’s reading ethos. Presentations can be broad or specific to your school’s choice of focus: pre-school reading, Early Years, KS1 and/or KS2.
Sessions are inspiring, informal, fun and engaging with phonics/reading activities, video messages from well-known authors and lots of book recommendations. Main messages include: why reading with your child is so important, how children learn to read (reading beyond phonics) and how to help your child’s reading at home.
Fees include pre-planning with your English / phonics lead, hourly sessions and suggestions for follow-up questionnaires to monitor impact and effect.
