Family Reading Sponsorship

Children Reading for Life offers an amazing opportunity for businesses and individuals to give a child and their family a head-start in life by encouraging and nurturing reading for pleasure at home.

A CRfL sponsorship package (£1,700) provides a child and their family with a FULL YEAR of:

  • Regular (term-time) reading sessions at home (min. 8 sessions per term);
  • Read-aloud story-time for the family to enjoy together (every session);
  • Advice and information for adults regarding the importance and value of reading with their child (every session);
  • Purchase of child’s very own personal book shelf / wall display / box for their own collection of favourite books;
  • Accompanied visits to local library to develop book-browsing skills and broaden child’s exposure to variety of text genres;
  • A year’s subscription to a magazine/comic of child’s choice based on their interests;
  • Reading tuition from qualified teacher to aid child’s reading progression (every session);
  • Suggestions and recommendations for books, magazines, comics etc. to match child’s reading interests as well as their reading level;
  • Accompanied visits to local bookshop to purchase books of child’s choice (min 4 books per term);
  • Fun resources for reading sessions i.e. puppets, hats, badges etc.;
  • Support / advice/ recommendations on reading matter related to interests, likes/dislikes, school topics, World Book Day, Poetry Day etc.;
  • Full (confidential) liaison with child’s teacher/school re any issues/needs arising.

It is well documented that those children who enjoy reading, and who choose to read, have greater chances of academic success. But children who are keen and regular readers are also known to have enhanced personal well-being, they have greater self-confidence and self-esteem and they are able to develop empathy skills which help their understanding of other people and the world around them. That’s the magic of books. An enthusiastic and inspirational reading teacher can spark that magic.

Technology and screen time are inevitable facts of life nowadays, for all of us. When a child’s brain is developing, they need, and benefit from, the calm stillness of books: pictures and images that can be pondered over, re-visited and talked about. They need time to think about, and understand, what they are seeing and hearing as opposed to flashing screen images that are gone in an instance.
