Recommendations for Finding Books

Children reading in library

Spark their imagination

Barrington Stoke

Children's book publisher who produce very good books (both fiction and non-fiction) which help reluctant readers, children who need a little confidence boost and those who may be dyslexic. I highly recommend these books and have used them a lot to help many children with their reading.

Books for Topics

A superb website where you can search for children's books depending on age, interest, subject, topic etc. Updated regularly.

An excellent website. Click on 'Choose a Bookshop' if you want to support your local independent bookshop.

A brilliant children's reading charity who do exceptional work.

Steyning Bookshop

One of the best independent book shops in the country. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff who will help you find the book you want. Lots of signed Julia Donaldson books too!

The Book Nook

The best specialist children's book shop around. If you're ever near Hove don't hesitate to visit. Very experienced and knowledgeable staff.

The Book Ferret

Arundel's wonderful independent book shop. Order books and they should arrive the next day!

The School Reading List

Not as prescriptive as the title sounds; they recommend new and classic children's books, generally by age/year group/key stage. Very useful.

United Kingdom Literacy Association

Look for the shortlists of these book awards: every book will have been tried and tested by teachers and their pupils.

West Sussex Library Services

ALWAYS support your local library: they are brilliant in many ways and are places where you and your children can browse books (absolutely vital in any child's reading journey).
